Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory disease that is symptomized by an autoantibody response to nuclear and cytoplasmic antigens. More than 90% of cases of SLE occur in women, frequently starting at childbearing age. LUPUS in the common name for Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

  • Systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE) is otherwise known as “LUPUS”
  • Lupus is a disease of 1000 faces means it can affect 1000 different people in 1000 different patterns
  • Lupus is an autoimmune disease where body’s immune system attacks own tissue and produce inflammation. This attack can occur at any sites of the body (skin, blood, kidney and brain)
  • Most commonly affects young females though it can also affect the pediatric population
  • Most common symptoms are fatigue and joint pain
  • Other symptoms include skin rash, rash over the face (Malar Rash), hair loss, oral ulcer and pedal edema

  • Along with medication lupus patient should avoid direct sun exposure and crowded place
  • Should use umbrella and apply sun protecting lotion over the exposed part and cover whole body while moving out from the house
  • Regularly visit to rheumatologist, get blood and urine test as per advice and regular treatment can lead a active life
  • Consult your doctor before planning for pregnancy if you are having LUPUS as some medicines are not suitable during pregnancy and close monitoring of the disease is required
